Yes, it is necessary to take the EMT program to move on to a Paramedic program. The EMT program trains you in the basic fundamentals of the prehospital Basic life support. After you have passed the EMT program and have acquired your licensure you can move on to the Paramedic program. Which cover’s prehospital advance life support.
